This article compares Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) and Somatic Experiencing (SE), two body-oriented approaches that attend to the relationship between bodily experience, emotion, memory and nervous-system regulation.
DMT is described as a psychotherapy discipline integrating movement, creativity, relational work and clinical goals across mental-health, healthcare, education and community settings. Somatic Experiencing is presented as an approach focused on trauma physiology, nervous-system regulation and restoring a sense of safety.
The article highlights both shared ground and differences in training, theory, clinical focus and method, helping readers understand why “body-based” practices are not interchangeable.
